Doll Messenger Bag or Coin Purse

This can either be a doll's messenger bag, in cases of smaller dolls, or a handbag for the larger dolls, or you can use it yourself for a coin purse.
You will need:
Size 5 needles
Tapestry needle
Optional Button 
5 yards CC, worsted weight yarn
40 yards MC, worsted weight yarn
Gauge in unimportant, once it's tight enough that nothing can slide through the stitches.
Cast on 30 stitches in MC.
Knit 2 rows MC
Knit 2 rows CC
Knit 2 rows MC
Knit 2 rows CC
Knit 2 rows MC
Knit 2 rows CC
Knit 2 rows MC
Knit 2 rows CC
Knit 2 rows MC
Bind off in MC
Fold up into quarters. the lower 3/4 become the bag's pocket. 
The top quarter is the flap. Sew into place, and sew on button if desired

Sideways Ribbed Coin Purse





Please note that this purse will come out rather thick.

Materials:
US size 10 needles
approx. 50 yards each  2 skeins
2 buttons
tapestry needle.

Purse is worked flat then seamed. No need to create button holes.

Gauge unimportant.

Using both strands held together as one, cast on 30 stitches.
Work k1/p1 ribbing until piece measures 4 inches from start.
Bind off.
Turn 90 degrees so it is lengthwise.
Fold one end about 3/5 of the way up, and sew into place. 
Flip inside out. 
Remaining piece is the flap. 
Sew buttons onto the purse, NOT the flap. 
Button them into place through the space between stitches.
