Super Bulky, Super Slouchy


Pattern for a quick slouchy hat. Takes about 4 hours from start to finish.

Materials:
Size 9 needles
Size 13 needles
Tapestry needle
Super Bulky Yarn, approx 90-100 yards.

Gauge:  4 sts by 5 rows in 1 square inch of 2X2 ribbing in smaller sized needle.

Pattern:
In smaller needle, cast on 50 stitches.
Work 10 rows of k2p2 ribbing.
Switch to larger needle.
RS *k1, m1L, k3, m1R, k1* rep to end of row (70 sts)
K straight in stockinette stitch until entire piece measures 7 inches long. For a slouchier hat, knit until the piece is longer than 7 inches before beginning to decreases. For a less slouchy hat, begin decreases before the hat is 7 inches from the start.

Begin decreases:
RS *k1, k2tog, k8, ssk,k1* rep to end (60 sts)
WS P all stitches
RS *k1, k2tog, k6, ssk, k1* rep to end (50 sts)
WS P all stitches
RS *k1, k2tog, k4, ssk, k1* rep to end (40 sts)
WS P all stitches
RS *k1, k2tog, k2, ssk, k1* rep to end (30 sts)
WS P all stitches
RS *k1, k2tog, ssk, k1* rep to end (20 sts)
WS P all stitches
RS *k2tog, ssk* rep to end (10 sts)
WS P all stitches
RS *k2tog, ssk* to end (5 sts)
Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw though remaining stitches, and sew up side seam.

JOINING:

Fold the top of the slipper in half, the side you want against your foot on the outside. The two long strips at the top should be in contact with each other.  It should look like this:











Sew ONLY THE TOPS of the strips at the end together. Use a really  long thread, for ease of attaching the sole later. This is the seam in the heel. It should look like this on the wrong side:










And like this on the right side:










Pick up the sole and hold it against the completed top. the sides you want against your feet should be on the inside. Sew the top of the slipper to the sole, being careful not to sew the hole that your foot is supposed to go through.




When you're finished sewing it up, it should look like this on the inside:




and this when you flip it right side out:













It does look a bit fat and short at the moment, but it will take on a more conventional foot shape after being worn for a while, like so:


Repeat to complete the other side of the pair.
